Match Recap
Thank you to Stephen Nolen for giving us a great place to play at Life Time Centennial Tennis and to
everyone who came out and played or watched last night!
We’re going to take a couple weeks off, but please hold the early evening on Wednesday 8/25 for what
could be the final match of the year at Arapahoe Tennis Club (Tech Center Area).
The Red Team defeated the Blue Team 4-2 last night, in a match-up that could have gone either way.
Blue Team's Anita Miner and Carol Benito took down Jessika Mozia and Nell Boyd 6-1, 6-4. I saw some
great rallies and we’re stoked to have women’s tennis of this caliber joining the DPL!
In a rematch of the 2005 Chris Thomas Memorial Tournament in Salisbury, MD (where Bryan Knepper
beat me for a guaranteed $1,000), I'm finally even 16 years later with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win. *
In a hotly contested and the most watched battle of Life Time Pros: Red Team's Chris Anderson & Miguel
Perez took a close one 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 over Josh King and Mike Early. Teachers always pull the biggest
crowds!
Blue Team's Jerad Harbaugh and Ari Rosenthal defeated Michael Malvitz and Zach Fryer 7-6, 7-6. It
took a full dive by Ari (and some skin left on the court) to earn the victory.
In Bart Scott's first appearance in the league, he lived up to his clutch reputation, winning 11-9 with Dietz
Fry in the super tiebreaker over Jesse Ruder-Hook and Lauri Makikalli after splitting breakers in the
1 st and 2 nd set. Lauri felt much better about the loss when he realized Dietz's mom was in attendance.
Finally, it was great to see Ethan Hillis back on the court. Rok Bonin won their clay court battle 7-6, 7-6
with 4 aces in the final tiebreaker to clinch victory for the red team.
* A side note from Dietz, “I’m increasingly wondering if Haywood’s tireless efforts to get DPL off the
ground this summer have exclusively revolved around getting this rematch with Knepper…”
