Match Recap
The Red team's Andy Zurcher and Cory Ross preparation on their home clay courts paid off in a win over
Mitch Robinson and Jeff Loehr. We officially found out that if Loehr was an XFL Football player, the back
of his jersey would read, “He Hate Clay.”
On 24hrs notice, Anita Miner stepped into the toughest match of the night against the 13yr old, home
club, favorite. Win 0&0, you’ve crushed the dreams of a rising star. Lose, you’re probably just calling it
quits and donating your rackets. A classy 6-3, 6-2 “thread the needle victory,” by Anita evened the team
score to 1-1.
The Blue team pulled ahead 3-1 with Dietz Fry and Lauri Makikalli defeating Lew Miller and David
Loewenthal 6-3, 6-2 and Justin Abrams and Ethan Horn defeating Ari Rosenthal and Michael Malvitz 6-3,
7-5.
The red team brought it back to 3-2 with Rok Bonin and John Haywood beating Jerad Harbaugh and
Casey Ross on the clay 7-5, 6-4.
In a thrilling match (videos of last 2 points attached), to tie the overall match at 3-3 and send the overall
team match to a super tiebreaker, Morgan Schilling d. Zach Fryer 6-7(4), 6-4, 14-12. Watch what it meant
to the kid watching!
Our first ever Captains’ Choice Super-Breaker, started with controversy and finished without daylight. Rok
& Haywood (Red Team) lobbied to play the match on clay, in an effort to continue their dominance on the
dirt. Fry quickly directed play to the hardcourts. Was that because the crowd was already assembled
near the hardcourt or to slightly advantage his Blue teammates? Justin and Ethan pulled it out for the
Blue Team winning the match over Rok Bonin and John Haywood in the super tiebreaker 11-9, but not
before Rok made them think about it, blistering a return and two serves from 6-9 down.
