Match recap

At #1: Bow Mar resident, Dietz Fry, and Grant Ive got a quality 7-6, 6-4 win over Yannik James and Jeff

Loehr.  As Taylor says, "any day you beat Jeff Loehr is a good day."  She's asked me, "how it went

playing against Jeff," enough times to know.  Luckily for us, Grant checked his junk email folder, found

Dietz's email and came to play, summing the night up with, "this league is perfect for me, I seldom

practice, but I like to play and have a beer with good people."

At #2: 2021 Denver City Open finalists, Jerad Harbaugh and Rok Bonin were rock solid, beating Ari

Rosenthal and me 6-4, 6-2.  Ari was absolutely crushing returns (got Jerad once in the chest) in the

second set, but their level was too high, their serving proved unbreakable and they broke my serve 3

times.

The best match (could have gone either way) was at #3: 2018 Denver City Open finalists, Ethan Horn

(who needs a spin second serve, when you can just hit 120+ mph serves?) and Michael Malvitz ("my

arm's going to hurt tomorrow because I felt I had to serve bigger playing with Ethan") took down Zach

Fryer and Mike Hao 7-6, 6-7, 8-6 (regular tiebreaker played because of fading light).  After Zach and Mike

fought off three match points in the deciding tiebreaker, Grant was warming up in case his name was

called for the 2-2 match super-breaker.

At #4: Niko Hereford and Bow Mar resident, Chris Mease, were flawless in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mike

Goodman and Clark Steinhauser.  Jeff Loehr used to go to Pinehurst Country Club after Wheat Ridge

High School and said he always left thinking, "maybe one day I'll be able to beat Mease."  The Mease

legend grew with a new generation (Clark born in 2003).
