Match Recap

The inaugural Denver Pro League match began with 16 quality tennis players competing at a high level

Thursday night at the Randy Ross Tennis Center.  The Blue Team (captained by Lew Miller) defeated the

Red team (captained by Jerad Harbaugh) 3-1.

At #1, Blue Team's Julian Seelan teamed with Morgan "The Kid" Schilling to get his first win over

Washington University All-American, Ari Rosenthal, in a rematch that's been brewing for 15+ years since

their college matches.  It certainly helped "The Kid" was hitting bombs and showing impressive court

coverage with sliding gets.  To make it even sweeter for Julian, the 6-4, 6-3 win also came over his former

college doubles partner, Michael Malvitz, who had recently announced he's better on the ad side, which

Julian had taken personally since Julian usually plays the ad side.

At #2, The Blue Team's first selection, big-serving-no-time-for-bio-writing-computer-whiz, Jesse Ruder-

Hook established what "League Level" was serving bombs, ripping returns, and showing off some deft

touch, taking his partner, John Haywood, to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nik Yip, and new dad, Ethan Horn.

At #3, Red Team's Mike Goodman and Zach Fryer took down a unique mixture of experience and youth

in Chris Mease and current Claremont player, Mike Hao 7-6, 6-4.

At #4, Blue Team Captain Lew Miller and Dietz Fry took down a looking-bigger-and-stronger-every-time-

we-see-him Niko Hereford and Jerad Harbaugh 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.  Not many have noticed because of Dietz's

unassuming, friendly style, but his ability to win every super tiebreaker means he uses a pen (not a

pencil) to put his annual trip to 5.0 Nationals on his calendar.

The Denver Pro League is for the highest-level Denver area tennis players, who appreciate what a great

social and team sport tennis can be, to compete.  5 more Denver Pro League matches have been

tentatively scheduled: July 8th at Bow Mar, July 15th at Glenmoor Country Club, July 22nd at The

Preserve, July 29th at Cherry Hills Country Club, and August 5th at Lifetime Fitness Tennis.
